The Bharatiya Janata Party has accused the opposition of disturbing the environment in the State to build social media hype and for cheap politics. The party’s State general secretary Kundan Parihar said that some are indulging in deplorable political stunts for cheap publicity on social media, adding that there is outrage among BJP workers due to such behaviour.

Recently, the BJP State president and Rajya Sabha member Mahendra Bhatt was confronted after his car was blocked by some workers of the Uttarakhand Kranti Dal at Pokhri in Chamoli district. Regarding this and other incidents, Parihar said that despite being the world’s largest political organisation, every BJP worker is disciplined. “Despite our strong and active organisation, we hold democratic protests unlike the opposition which attempts to force a confrontation. The BJP never supports petty politics which deteriorates the atmosphere. All have the right to express their opinion and raise public issues in a democracy. If the opposition wants to register its protest, it can do so in a symbolic and decent manner which is understandable. However, forcefully blocking the vehicle of a leader or minister, using indecent language, swearing and preventing someone from reaching the destination is part of a distorted and dangerous culture which is emerging in Uttarakhand,” he said.

Parihar further said that the attitude of the opposition is a result of its frustration. The manner in which the popularity of the BJP has been rising consistently in the State with the public approving the development works of the double-engine government, the frustrated opposition is stooping down to such a low level of politics, he said.

“As a responsible political party, we expect the opposition to not forget its limits. There is no place for indecent language, misbehaviour and violent experiments in Uttarakhand. The BJP workers are outraged by such incidents taking place repeatedly. The opposition should desist from indulging in such distorted politics,” Parihar added.
