The Bharatiya Janata Party has alleged that the protest by Congress and opposition parties in the Ankita Bhandari case was motivated by politics and not the aim of ensuring justice for the victim. The BJP State president and Rajya Sabha member Mahendra Bhatt said that these parties are fighting for their political existence by making such a sensitive case a political weapon. He said that the flags of political parties in the protest on Sunday made their ambitions for the 2027 elections clear. Meanwhile, the BJP Mahila Morcha also staged protests against the Congress in various parts of the State on Sunday.
“The swift action and strong advocacy ensured by the State government in the court ensured conviction of the guilty but if the Congress finds some gaps in this, it can make the court aware of the facts,” he said. Bhatt said that the anarchy witnessed during the protest in Dehradun and other places was an attempt to mar the atmosphere. He alleged that the Congress is working on a strategy to defame the BJP government and the party organisation. “The opposition is once again spreading rumours and lies in the matter of Ankita Bhandari’s murder. After being repeatedly rejected by the public, Congress leaders are indulging in despicable politics on such a sensitive issue. The investigating agency has already clarified on the issue of the alleged VIP and all aspects have been cleared in the court. The Congress had raised this issue in the past too and has now come forward with new names after its past failure,” the BJP State chief said.
He added that the police have already clarified aspects including the VIP and demolition of the resort. The demolition did not destroy evidence which had been carefully collected before the action, he said. The collected evidence was enough to get the accused sentenced. Bhatt also accused the opposition parties of trying to spoil the atmosphere in the State through their “anarchy” during protest demonstrations in Dehradun and other parts of the State.
Demonstrating against the Congress, Mahila Morcha State president Ruchi Chauhan Bhatt said that the opposition was without a suitable agenda and had stooped to unethical politics by exploiting the murder case.
