An order has been issued on Tuesday to eliminate the man-eating tiger or leopard which claimed to have killed three persons in Tadham village under Salt development block. The decision came in the wake of mounting public anger and a formal request by the local MLA, Mahesh Jeena.

The tiger killed three villagers in a short period, including Mahipal Singh, whose death triggered widespread outrage. The villagers staged a protest by placing the victim’s body on the road, blocking traffic and demanding immediate action to kill the animal.

Taking note of the people’s anger, the MLA met the Forest minister Subodh Uniyal in Dehradun and briefed him about the situation. In response, the minister directed officials to take necessary steps in public interest, including orders to eliminate the tiger or leopard responsible for the attacks.

Meanwhile, a team from Corbett Tiger Reserve has been deployed to the area. The wildlife veterinarian, Dr Dushyant Kumar has been sent to Salt to lead the operation. He stated that cages will be installed and patrolling intensified to monitor the movement of the predator. “Efforts will first be made to tranquilise and capture the tiger or leopard. If captured, samples will be sent to a laboratory for examination,” he added.

Senior officials, including DFO Deepak Singh, SDO Kakul Pundir, Ranger Ganga Sharan, SDM Rinku Bisht and Tehsildar Abid Ali are said to be monitoring things.
