Over 2,500 police personnel to be on G20 summit duty

Over 2,500 police personnel will be deployed in Udham Singh Nagar and Nainital districts in view of the planned G20 conference to be held in Ramnagar from March 28 to 30. Besides this, Uttar Pradesh police will also be deployed near the border areas. Stringent security arrangements have been made near the borders especially as a precaution considering the possibility of pro-Khalistan leader and fugitive Amritpal Singh entering Uttarakhand, said the inspector general of Kumaon division, Nilesh Anand Bharne on Sunday. He told The Pioneer that both Udham Singh Nagar and Nainital districts have been divided into two zones each and seven sectors and five sectors respectively.

He said that over 2,500 police personnel will be deployed in both districts for security arrangements. A total of 20 circle officers, 27 inspectors and 163 station house officers will be on duty in Nainital while 13 circle officers and 116 station house officers will be on duty in Udham Singh Nagar. Besides this, UP police and Uttarakhand police will jointly manage security arrangements near border areas and conduct regular checks. He said that no heavy vehicles would be allowed to enter these districts till the completion of the events. He said that all police personnel and officials deployed for the duty in G20 Summit were briefed on Sunday in Rudrapur in the presence of additional director general of police, (Law and Order) V Murugesan. Addressing the police and officials in the briefing, Bharne said that the G-20 summit is an important and first-of-its-kind event for the state and all police officers should perform their duties as per protocol.
