Over 30K green cards issued for commercial vehicles

The nodal officer for the Char Dham Yatra and regional transport officer (Administration), Sandeep Saini, informed that from March 29 to May 24, a total of 30,305 green cards have been issued for commercial vehicles, which includes vehicles registered in the State and in other States. To ensure the successful and safe conduct of the Char Dham Yatra, the Uttarakhand Transport department launched the green card system for commercial passenger vehicles. This system mandates that vehicles plying in the Char Dham Yatra must be technically fit and safe. It also verifies vehicle fitness and provides quick access to vehicle information in emergencies.
According to the data from March 29 to May 24, 30,305 green cards were issued for commercial vehicles, of which 18,615 were for vehicles registered in Uttarakhand, while 11,690 were for those from other States.
He also informed that the issuance of green cards by RTO/ARTO offices shows that the Rishikesh office issued the highest number, with 8,813 cards, followed by the Haridwar office with 7,067 cards. Other figures include 5,539 green cards issued by the Dehradun office, 4,351 by Roorkee, 1,266 by Rudraprayag, 832 by Karnprayag, 796 by Kotdwar, 283 by Uttarkashi, 245 by Pauri, 243 by Ramnagar, 241 by Vikasnagar, 238 by Haldwani, 122 by Tankapur, 77 by Rudrapur, 70 by Tehri, 42 by Pithoragarh, 32 by Almora, 29 by Kashipur, 11 by Ranikhet and eight by Bageshwar. This distribution includes green cards for both Uttarakhand and out-of-State commercial vehicles, he said.
According to officials, vehicle owners can apply for a green card online by visiting the Transport department’s official website at www.greencard.uk.gov.in and paying the required fee. The green card will be issued after a technical inspection of the vehicle at the nearest transport office. The validity of the green card will extend till November.
