The final phase of the seven-phase polling saw 40.09 per cent turnout till 1 pm for 57 constituencies spread across seven States and the Union Territory of Chandigarh. The Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s constituency Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh is among the 51 constituencies where polling is being held. Braving the schorching heat, people came out in large numbers to vote in this high profile constituency.
Polling is being held in all the 13 seats of Punjab and four of Himachal Pradesh aside from 13 in Uttar Pradesh, nine in West Bengal, eight in Bihar, six in Odisha and three in Jharkhand, besides Chandigarh. Along with this, polling for the remaining 42 Assembly constituencies in Odisha and by-polls to six Assembly seats in Himachal Pradesh are also being held.
