Over 50 lakh pilgrims visited Char Dham shrines

The number of pilgrims visiting Char Dham shrines has exceeded 50 lakh since the commencement of the pilgrimage this year. The efforts of the authorities to ensure a smooth travel experience for the devotees coming from across the country and abroad for Char Dham Yatra led to this record breaking number of pilgrims in the State, said the director general of police Ashok Kumar. He said that over 50 lakh pilgrims have visited Char Dham shrines since April and about 5.41 lakh vehicles also arrived in the State for Char Dham Yatra. Since the commencement of the Yatra, more than 17.08 lakh devotees visited Kedarnath Dham, 15.9 lakh visited Badrinath Dham, 8.46 lakh in Gangotri, 6.94 lakh devotees in Yamunotri and over 1.77 lakh devotees visited Hemkund Sahib. The doors of Hemkund Sahib have been closed for winter. The DGP said, “The police have been providing all possible assistance to the pilgrims at every level to ensure they do not have to face any inconvenience. Their experiences here have strengthened their faith in Char Dham shrines and in Uttarakhand police. We have always been committed to a safe and uninterrupted Char Dham Yatra and will continue to do so in the future.”
