In latest Uttarakhand news, over four lakh twenty five thousand devotees took the holy dip in Ganga at Har Ki Pauri and others ghats in Haridwar on the occasion of Somvati Amavasya. Besides, they offered puja to the Sun-god as part of the religious rituals meant for this auspicious occasion. The devotees came, braving the inclement weather and flood-like situations in states like Delhi, Haryana, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh. According to the astrologers, this Somvati Amavasya was a little special as after a gap of 19 years, a special planetary configuration happened in the month of Shravan. Meanwhile, the Haridwar district administration took all steps to ensure that the bathing ceremony passed off peacefully.
