Dr BKS Sanjay nominated president of AIIMS- Guwahati

The Government of India has nominated Padma Shri awardee orthopaedic surgeon Dr Bhupendra Kumar Singh Sanjay as the president of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Guwahati. Announcing the decision to nominate Dr Sanjay as the president of AIIMS, Guwahati, the Central Government sources said that it would further strengthen patient care, medical education and research in the North Eastern States.
At present, there are 19 AIIMS functioning across the country, including AIIMS Guwahati. The foundation stone of AIIMS Guwahati was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 26, 2017. The institute was established to facilitate quality healthcare services, medical education and research in North East India.
An internationally renowned orthopaedic surgeon, clinical researcher, academician, author, speaker, poet and social worker, Dr Sanjay– who also regularly contributes articles to The Pioneer- has been named in the Guinness Book of World Records and other record publications for his exceptional achievements. His research work has been published in many top international research journals, including Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, International Orthopaedics, Journal of Hand Surgery.
He received his basic orthopaedic education from Kanpur, PGI Chandigarh and Central Institute of Orthopaedics, New Delhi. He also received advanced training and fellowships in various sub-specialties of orthopaedics from Sweden, Switzerland, Japan, USA and Russia. In his medical career spanning 45 years, he has held various positions in India and abroad. The Government of India presented him with Padma Shri in 2021.
