Saturday, 08 October 2022 | PNS | HARIDWAR

Pakistani pilgrims arrived here to attend the annual Urs underway at the Piran Kaliyar Dargah near Roorkee. Every year, a large number of people-both Hindus and Muslims, visit the Dargah of Hazrat Makhdoom Alauddin Ahmed ‘Sabri’ to attend the Urs.

It is said that the tradition of holding the annual Urs is about 700 years old. The 754th annual Urs of Piran Kaliyar is currently underway.  A batch of 150 Pakistani pilgrims reached Roorkee to attend the festivity. The Pakistanis arrived at Roorkee railway station in the Lahori Express train.  After landing at the railway station, the pilgrims were welcomed and then sent to Piran Kaliyar in buses along with security. The Pakistani pilgrims are slated to stay here for about one week. The convener of the Urs organising committee and poet Afzal Manglauri said that the leader of the Pakistani batch will also be presented with holy Ganga water for Lahore Guru Mandir and Lahore Shiv Mandir by Rajya Sabha member Kalpana Saini and former minister Swami Yateeshwaranand.

An official of the Pakistani Embassy in Delhi is also present to assist the Pakistani batch.

Roorkee police circle officer Vivek Kumar said that 150 Pakistani pilgrims had reached Roorkee and after checks, they were sent to the Sabri guest house at Piran Kaliyar where they will be staying. All necessary arrangements have been made for security, he added.
