Panchayat candidate’s husband arrested for Phulgarh hooch deaths

The police have arrested the main accused for supplying hooch to residents of Phulgarh village which resulted in the death of at least five persons on Friday and Saturday. The main accused Bijendra was supplying hooch to villagers from his home in order to woo them as his wife was a candidate for the post of Gram Pradhan, said the police.
According to Haridwar senior superintendent of police Yogendra Singh Rawat, five people of Phulgarh have died due to the consumption of raw liquor. The main accused Bijendra is a resident of the same village. The police recovered a can filled with 35 liters of raw liquor buried in Bijendra’s field. Further, the furnace used to prepare the liquor was recovered in the basement of his brother Naresh’s shop. The SSP said that Bijendra had set up the furnace in his field to prepare liquor about six months ago. With the start of the Panchayat election process, he took out a 40-litre can and started distributing liquor to the villagers. The main accused has been sent to jail while his wife Babli and brother Naresh are absconding. The police said that the other two accused in the case will also be arrested soon.
