The run up to polling in the district Panchayat elections in Haridwar is seeing tensions rising in both the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party. The workers of these parties are raising their voice on the choice of ticket allocations. At the BJP district office located in Jagjitpur, Haridwar, the party workers stopped the car of the party’s district president Jaipal Singh while raising slogans against him. After a protesting party worker thumped the bonnet of the car, the driver had a heated argument with the protesters. However, Singh managed to pacify them a bit though they continued to raise slogans against him.
A video has going viral on social media in Haridwar, which is of the BJP office in Jagjitpur. The video shows the district president preparing to leave the office in the evening when a number of BJP workers and tickets claimants, came in front of the car and started shouting slogans against him. The protesters were alleging favoritism in distribution of tickets for the Panchayat election. They alleged that the workers who had been serving the party for the last several years had been ignored in the distribution of tickets. The driver started the car but more party workers came in front of the vehicle. In the meantime, a worker thumped the bonnet of the car which resulted in an argument between the protesters and the driver. Singh later got down from the car and managed to somewhat pacify the protesters who continued to raise slogans against him.
Singh said that some party workers are disappointed at not getting ticket for contesting the Panchayat election. Such party workers have been told to submit their complaint in the party office in a proper manner, he said.
