The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) is planning to implement the Panchkosha development principle in education from the 2023-24 academic session. Based on the ancient Indian principles on the five sheaths of human personality, this system will lay stress on the physical, mental, intellectual and consciousness development of the students, said the NCERT director professor Dinesh Prasad Saklani during his visit to Chamba in Tehri district.

Focus is being laid on improving the level of primary education as part of the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Providing quality education in early childhood is being considered a sound investment in the future of the nation. Considering this, the NCERT has prepared a syllabus based on the traditional Indian principle of Panchkosha. While on a private tour to Chamba on Thursday, the NCERT director said that the syllabus based on Panchkosha development principle will be introduced at the primary education level in the 2023-24 academic session. This will start a new chapter in Indian education. He said that the NEP-2020 is aimed at ensuring the all round development and cultural connect of students to prepare useful citizens. The system of Panchkosha development based education is being facilitated for the all round development of the students. The teaching and learning aspects have been prepared on the Panchkosha (five sheaths) idea which will also provide a tension-free atmosphere for the children to learn. They will be able to enjoy learning with the help of aids like games and toys.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Taittiriya Upanishad describes human beings to be composed of five sheaths of personality (Panchkosha) comprising of the gross body (Anamaya Kosha), the vital or instinctual component (Pranamaya Kosha), the mental or psychological component (Manomaya Kosha), the intellectual component (Vigyanmaya Kosha) and the aspect of pure bliss (Anandmaya Kosha).
