The Education ministers in the Himalayan state of Uttarakhand have always ended up losing from the assembly constituencies they contest. This time, Arvind Pandey, the incumbent Education minister is up against Premanand Mahajan of the Congress party and history to secure a place in the next Vidhan Sabha from Gadarpur assembly constituency.
In the first interim government of Uttarakhand, Nityanand Swami was the chief minister and Tirath Singh Rawat was the education minister. In the assembly election of 2002, Tirath was BJP candidate from Pauri assembly but he lost. In the Congress government that was formed under Narayan Dutt Tiwari, Narendra Singh Bhandari was made Education minister however in the assembly election of 2007 the education minister Bhandari lost. After securing victory in assembly elections of 2007 the BJP formed the government in the state and Matbar Singh Kandari was the education minister but he lost from Rudraprayag assembly seat to Harak Singh Rawat of Congress in 2012.
In the Congress government that was formed in the year 2012 Mantri Prasad Naithani was the Education minister. However in keeping up the trend he lost to Vinod Kandari of BJP from Devprayag assembly constituency in the elections of 2017.
