In latest Uttarakhand news, the 114th Kisan Mela would be held at the G B Pant University of Agriculture and Technology from October 13 to 16. Informing this, a senior university office bearer said that the chancellor of the university and the Governor of Uttarakhand Lt Gen Gurmit Singh (Rtd) will inaugurate the fair and visit the exhibition that would showcase items related to agriculture. He will also address a gathering at the university’s conference hall. This fair is meant to help and expand scope of diversification of agriculture and also to acquaint the farmers with the agro-related technology being churned out by the agriculture scientists so as to enable the farmers enhance their incomes substantially. This aside, during the fair, the farmers would be introduced to the scientific sowing of the seeds of multiple kharif crops like paddy, maize, pea and green gram beans for better harvest. Plus, the high-yielding variety of seeds along with vegetables, flowers, medicinal and aromatic plants would be displayed at the exhibition for sale. The university’s spokesperson further informed that the self-help groups associated with agricultural science centres would put up stalls in the fair. Besides, a special exhibition involving millets would be held during the fair with the assistance of NABARD. While about 450 stalls would be put up on the fairground the university officials said that about 25,000 farmers from across Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and other states are expected to attend this fair. Further, mini tractors, power tillers and power bidder machines would be showcased at the exhibition for the farmers based in the mountains of the State.
