Paragliders display skills, compete in the air at Paragliding Acro and SIV competition

Paragliders from across the nation and abroad displayed their skills on the second day of the four-day Acro World Cup and SIV Paragliding competition organised by the Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board in association with Paragliding Mantra at the Tehri dam reservoir. Paragliding Mantra director Tanaji Takwe said that the SIV and Acro competition is being held in three stages out of which the first concluded successfully on Friday. A total of 60 participants competed in the first stage of the SIV section and 40 competed in the Acro section. The pilots who had sustained injuries on the first day of the competition have recovered fully and will participate in the competition on Saturday. Tehri district tourism officer Sobat Singh Rana informed that the department is facilitating free of cost paragliding for tourists on the Tehri lake to attract tourists to such adventure sports in this location. A total of 35 paragliding pilots have been invited separately for this purpose and so far more than 150 tourists have enjoyed paragliding free of cost.
According to officials, 30 foreign Acro pilots, 102 Indian SIV pilots, 25 tandem pilots and five BASE jumpers have registered for this event. The Tourism department is aiming to promote Uttarakhand as a premier tourist destination for adventure and water sports leveraging the State’s natural beauty and cultural heritage. A total of 75 participants from various States of the country including Himachal Pradesh, Maharashtra, Uttarakhand and the North East along with pilots from various countries like Turkey, France, Iran, Russia, Spain and Switzerland are participating in the event.
