Parents showing new-found interest in summer camps for children

Thursday, 30 MAY 2024 | PNS | DEHRADUN

To enable the children to develop new skills and maintain a structured routine during the summer vacation, many parents in Dehradun have chosen to enroll their children in various summer camps. They said that the summer break in schools often disrupts their children’s daily schedules, driving them to lethargy, and so enrolling them in summer camps helps them keep physically agile and quick-witted.  Besides, they argued, such camps help them acquire new skills and enhance their earlier developed skills.

Asked about the parents’ never-before-seen eagerness about summer camp, the owner of such a camp Deepak Narang said that previously, the parents had not been interested in sending children to summer camps. “However, in the course of time, they realised the value of summer camps. It is at the summer camps that the students not just develop new skills but also augment previously developed skills. Usually, the children idle away time, ruptured from the daily school routine. This is certainly not good for them. I    hold a summer camp in the Dalanwala area from 9 am to 1 pm where children are taught new techniques and introduced to the use of Artificial Intelligence. In addition to skill enhancement, various physical activities like badminton matches and swimming among others are included,” he said.

He further said that his summer camp is cost-effective, providing children with a plethora of activities for just Rs 1500.

Several organisers of summer camps The Pioneer spoke to noted the increasing interest among parents in enrolling their children in such programmes.

“Summer vacation represents a significant hiatus in children’s routines. However, it also presents a crucial opportunity for children to sharpen their inherent qualities in various fields,” said a parent Sonia Dixit, adding   that she has enrolled her daughter in a summer camp where she is honing her singing skill.

Echoing the same view, another parent Vipul Bhauguna stressed on the summer camps positively impacting school-going children. “They tend to become lethargic as they waste their summer vacation days. This weakens them physically too.  To ensure that my son does not fritter away his summer vacation, I enrolled him for a summer camp. This is doubly beneficial. First, this keeps him engaged in    numerous physical activities and second, this sharpens his skill in   diverse fields,” he said.
