Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that many noted historians have publicly stated that the partition of India was a result of political weakness. The partition was not only a geographical action but also drew a line of hatred and communal tensions between those who had been living together for many generations. The CM said this while speaking at an event organised by the Punjabi Sabha on the horrors of partition here on Sunday. Dhami also honoured the family members of those who had suffered the horrors of partition. He also announced that a memorial will be constructed in the memory of those who lost their lives during the partition.
Dhami said, “After a long struggle the nation was celebrating independence on August 15, 1947 while on the other hand the nation also suffered the pain of partition. The pain of this horror is still alive and brings tears to the eyes of those who have experienced it. Various historians and political leaders have clearly stated from various platforms that the partition of India was a clear example of political weakness. It is our responsibility to ensure that the younger generation is aware of the conditions in which the nation achieved independence,” said the CM.
He said that those who had faced the horrors of partition, set their pain aside and contributed to the development of the nation. They also contributed considerably to the development of this region, he said. Many of those who migrated from the Punjab region of Pakistan have shown what a person can achieve with hard work and determination, Dhami added.
The CM said that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, Uttarakhand is striving to become a model State. The State government is working on the mantra of ‘simplification, solution, resolution and satisfaction’. Development of the road, rail and air network is being undertaken at a swift pace in the State. He reiterated that the original Sanatan form of Uttarakhand will not be distorted, adding that the law against religious conversion will be implemented strictly.
