The State Sports University Bill was approved during the Vidhan Sabha session in Gairsain on Friday, the Sports minister Rekha Arya said. Arya expressed happiness and called it a historic day for sports in the State. She extended her gratitude to chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami highlighting the exceptional efforts of the State government towards sports development. Arya emphasised that the enactment of the Sports University Act would streamline the establishment process of a sports university, positioning Uttarakhand among the states with their own institutions dedicated to sports education. She further added that in addition, the process of land transfer for the sports university is in progress and it is anticipated that the Centre will soon provide its approval for the land transfer. The State government is diligently striving to promote sports and improve skills of the athletes. She further stated that world class athletes will emerge from the State following the establishment of the sports university. The sports minister expressed optimism that the foundation stone of the sports university could be laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the National Games.
The sports university bill was earlier approved in the cabinet meeting held before the Assembly session.
