While expressing concern over the food adulteration threatening the collective health of the nation, Acharya Balkrishna announced on Friday that Patanjali has conducted research on how to detect pesticides and chemicals in food. Biosensors for detecting pesticide residues, mycotoxins and heavy metals in fruits and vegetables- a concise review, has been recently published in ‘Microchemical Journal’, a peer-reviewed research journal.
He further said that this research would enable people to analyse the quality of food themselves and ensure their food security. “It is unfortunate as well as challenging for the country as the food items the people mostly consume from pulses, grains, milk, spices and ghee aside from vegetables and fruits are being adulterated. We are especially dependent on foodgrains for strengthening our body. To keep the body healthy, we need regular amounts of protein, fat, carbohydrates, vitamins and mineral salts and we get these from foodgrains,” he said and added that their research would go a long way in making people aware and active against the adulteration threat.
