Pauri police arrest two for cyber fraud

The Pauri district police arrested two frauds Krishan Kumar from New Delhi and Tanya from Haryana who had allegedly committed an online fraud amounting to Rs 5.16 lakh claiming to facilitate a parcel from abroad. The duo was arrested within two days of the FIR being lodged. Three other accused involved in the case including Nigerian citizen Visdom Okafor, Sachin Rao and Mrinal Thapa from New Delhi are yet to be traced.

According to the police, resident of Balasaur in Kotdwar, Yashoda Devi had lodged an FIR on December 22. The report stated that some unknown person had defrauded her of Rs 5.16 lakh. The caller told her that Rs 5.16 lakh was required to receive an overseas parcel from Delhi airport. The money was demanded in different accounts.The police registered a case against unknown persons. On the instructions of Pauri senior superintendent of police Shweta Choubey, the police team constituted under inspector in-charge Vijay Singh and sub inspector Jai Pal Singh Chauhan of the cyber cell began investigation in the case.The police team arrested Krishan Kumar from New- Delhi and also arrested Tanya from Haryana on the basis of evidence collected from Kumar. The arrested accused Krishan Kumar told the police that he had worked with Tanya to carry out the fraud. Tanya told the police that Nigerian Visdom Okofor along with Sachin and Mrinal were handling cyber frauds.
