The Pauri district police have arrested an absconding criminal identified as Umar from a bus stand in Nathor of Bijnor district of Uttar Pradesh in connection with an e-rickshaw looting case registered in Kotdwar kotwali in May this year.  Police said that Umar was the main accused in the case with nine cases registered against him in different police stations across Uttar Pradesh for stealing e- rickshaws. Sharing further information about him, police said that Umar hails from the Chandpur police station area in Bijnor district of Uttar Pradesh.

To recall, one Manoj Singh, resident of Kotdwar, had lodged a complaint in Kotdwar police station on May 1, alleging that the e-rickshaw of his father Kalam Singh had gone missing. The police registered a case on the basis of the complaint. On the same day the case was registered, a police team recovered the stolen e-rickshaw and arrested one of the suspects Naasir, a resident of Fazalpur under Kiratpur police station of Bijnor district.  As police took a serious view of the e-rickshaw lifting racket operating in the district, they added the section 328/394 /411 of the Indian Penal Code to the case registered.

The senior superintendent of police (SSP) Pauri Shweta Choubey ordered the police personnel to constitute a team to arrest all the members of the vehicle lifting racket who were absconding.

Under the guidance of the ASP Kotdwar Jaya Baluni, a team was constituted under the in-charge inspector Kotdwar Kotwali Mani Bhushan Srivastava.

Acting on an intelligence unit tip-off, the police team arrested the prime accused of the e-rickshaw lifting case Umar from Jhalachauraha bus stand at Nathor in Bijnor district. The police later produced the accused in the court and subsequently the court sent the accused to jail.

The Pauri district police top brass said that they have been launching manhunts for suspected criminals under Operation Prahar on the instruction of the SSP Choubey.
