Pauri police save two kanwadiyas from drowning

A day after the Shravan Kanwad Mela started, the Pauri district police have saved the lives of two young Kanwadiyas as they were being swept away by the strong current of Ganga within Laxmanjhula police station limit in Yamkeshwar block of the district on Wednesday. Police said that the young kanwadiyas were identified as   Lama Laxman Thakur, 16, resident of Kathmandu, Nepal and Rakesh, 22, resident of Meerpur, Uttar Pradesh. 

As per information received from police, while taking bath, they were found floundering being caught in the swirl of the river in sector 20 of zone 7 in Laxmanjhula. Members of water police and SDRF, deployed in the Vanorasth Asharam, jumped into the river and rescued the two drowning youths.  The Pauri police appealed to the devotees to take baths only in the identified places so as to avoid recurrence of such incidents.

On the other hand, Pauri police have united over a dozen missing people with their relatives and friends till Wednesday.  Among them are a baby Chaasi aged one and half years; four-year-old child Gaurav; a Shiva devotee from France Janney, 62 and octogenarian Surajbhan. They got lost in the Kanwad Mela crowd in Neelkanth.  

It is pertinent to mention that six digital lost and found centres have been set up in the entire Kanwad Mela area of Neelkanth, Laxmanjhula.  Besides, 28 traffic volunteers have been deployed to assist the traffic police to maintain normal movement of vehicles in the Neelkanth Shravan Kanwad Mela area on Wednesday as per the instruction of the senior superintendent of police, Pauri Shweta Choubey.
