Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara has alleged that there is lack of proper management on the Char Dham Yatra route. Pilgrims from around the nation are suffering the effects of natural disaster along with the lack of governmental efficiency, he said while sharing the experiences of the party’s Kedarnath Pratishtha Raksha Yatra which had started on July 24 and continued for 10 days. Mahara said that a Congress delegation will soon meet chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami regarding the natural disasters witnessed in the State recently.
Addressing the media, Mahara said that the party’s rally was suspended on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s suggestion after the route to Kedarnath was blocked by landslides and heavy rains but it will resume for three days again from where it was suspended after the routes are restored. He claimed that he had refused the offer from the district administration to be flown by helicopter to offer prayers at Kedarnath. “The arrangements made by the government on the entire Yatra route are poor and the administration is unable to give proper feedback. As a result, the pilgrims face difficulties resulting from natural disasters. About 150 two-wheelers of pilgrims from outside the State are parked at Sitapur and their whereabouts are not known for some days now. Even the authorities were unable to provide any information about them,” he claimed.
The PCC chief said that Tehri, Chamoli, Dharchula, Kapkot and other parts of the State have suffered considerable damage due to disasters. He said that the Kedarnath Yatra was halted for the general public but the State government’s chopper was used to ferry a Bharatiya Janata Party leader to Kedarnath instead of being used for rescue and relief efforts. Mahara further alleged that the authorities had not prepared properly before the start of the pilgrimage. This is the reason why Gaurikund suffered severe damage once again.
