The District Magistrate (DM) of Pauri Ashish Chauhan has imposed a penalty of Rs Four Lakh on an excavator machine involved in illegal mining in the Alaknanda River. The Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Sadar, Aakash Joshi said that the machine had prepared a 130 meter long and three meter path in the bed of Alaknanda River in Village Fehtepir Rati of Patti Edwalsuyn of Srinagar. When the authorities asked for the permission letter for this act from the driver of the machine Nikesh Saini,a resident of village Bijjori district Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh he failed to produce it. On investigation, Saini said that the path was being prepared by Rajendra Singh Bisht, a resident of Srikot Gangnali for going to his sanctioned mining lease. Joshi stressed that the said path created by the machine has come in the category of illegal mining. He said that the act is a violation of the orders of the Uttarakhand High Court.
