The Pension Rath Yatra of the national president of National Movement for Old Pension Scheme (NMOPS) Vijay Kumar Bandhu received a rousing reception in Dehradun on Monday. The Yatra started on June 1 from Champaran in Bihar. It was received at the Officers Club in Yamuna Colony by a large number of employees belonging to different employee organisations of Uttarakhand. Speaking on the occasion, he said that the NMOPS is committed to get the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) implemented. He said that the employees would receive the OPS with the help of the power of their vote. “We have got the benefit of OPS on the strength of our struggle and we will get the OPS implemented in the entire country,’’ he said.
Bandhu said that the NMOPS would undertake the ‘Ghanti Bajao’ campaign from August 1 to 9 in which demonstrations will be held before the residences of MPs. He threatened that the employees would start a ‘vote for OPS’ campaign if the government continued to ignore their demands. Launching a scathing attack on the government, he asked, “What kind of nationalism is depriving the benefit of pension to the personnel of paramilitary forces?’’
The president of Uttarakhand unit of NMOPS, Jeetmani Painyuli and other office bearers of the organisation welcomed Bandhu and the participants of Yatra. He said that the #VoteforOPS campaign has succeeded in Karnataka. He said that the unity of employees and teachers on the issue of OPS proved to be the turning point of Karnataka elections. He said that the issue of OPS would influence the Lok Sabha elections of 2024 in a big way.
