Former chief minister and senior Congress leader Harish Rawat has said that the decision of the Uttarakhand High Court to transfer the investigation of the Horticulture department scam to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is a major embarrassment for the State government.
Interacting with The Pioneer at his residence on Sunday, Rawat who is recuperating from injuries sustained in a road accident recently said that the court’s order is an indictment of the functioning of the government. He said that horticulture scam has major ramification and its scale shows involvement of people who are at the top. “The top person could either be the secretary or the minister of the department. It is now up to the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to take punitive action,’’ he said.
Rawat said that the recent order of the HC on the public interest litigation of Ranikhet resident Deepak Kargeti is a major setback to the State government in the corruption cases as the court has put a question mark on the investigation done by the State agencies in the case so far.
