People can visit U’khand without fear, says Maharaj

The State’s Tourism, Irrigation and Culture minister Satpal Maharaj has said that pilgrims and tourists coming to Uttarakhand need not be afraid due to the recent disaster in Chamoli district. He said that the impact of the disaster is limited mainly from Raini village to Vishnuprayag.

There is no impact of the disaster anywhere in the region. He said, “The state government had earlier drained water from the reservoir of the Srinagar dam, which is capable of facing any disaster scenario. I would like to tell the tourists coming to Uttarakhand that the danger is now past so they can visit the State without any fear.” He also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home minister Amit Shah for the immediate action taken by the Centre to provide assistance to Uttarakhand and ensuring rescue works on a war footing.

Maharaj further stressed that the Chamoli disaster will not have an effect on the Char Dham Yatra, adding that tourists can visit any part of the state without fear. The minister further said that had the disaster taken place during the night instead of the daytime, the damage could have been much greater.
