The entry of the public is prohibited in the band stand in Mallital area of Nainital city. However, both tourists and local residents continue to walk in this area even though it is considered risky. The safety wall along the Naini lake at the band stand in Mallital area had collapsed into the lake some time ago. There are also large cracks on this stretch.
Due to these reasons, the local administration had imposed a restriction on the entry of public in this area. Despite the prohibition, the local residents and tourists continue to risk their lives by walking in this area. The Nainital municipality executive officer Alok Uniyal said that tin sheets have been used to block entry to this spot. However, people are jumping over the tin to get themselves photographed in the area, he added.
