In latest news from Uttarkashi, underscoring the need of a helipad, the local people said that the helipad construction work near Vairaj has been going on at a snail’s pace, resulting in their suffering. The construction work should be completed at the earliest, they said and added that the helipad would help them transport persons gone ill to a town hospital. Besides, if a disaster befalls them helipad would help rescue operation, they said. Further, it will reduce the travel time of the youngsters of Uttarkashi who are working in big cities coming home. A social worker Ajay Badola said that the helipad construction work should be completed in no time in public interest. The president of the hotel association Shailendra Matuda echoed the same and said that aside from facilitating the ill persons’ transportation to the cities/towns, the helipad would bring more pilgrims to the revered shrines located across the distrct. According to him, increased tourist footfalls meant boost to tourism and generation of more employment opportunities for the youth. The leaders of the prominent religious organisations also demanded prompt construction and operationalisation of the helipad in the people’s interest and said they would request the State government to speed things up. Taking a hit at the people’s representatives of the disrict, the State president of Rashtriya Hindu Sangh, Thakur Surendra Pal Singh said that things have remained stuck for years thanks to their apathy. He expressed the hope that the State government helmed by Pushkar Singh Dhami would take the issue seriously and help completion of the helipad construction work in no time.
