People striving to prevent harassment of women & children will be honoured: CM

The State government will honour those who would make efforts to prevent mental and physical harassment of women and children by informing about such incidents to authorities concerned. Such people will be declared as Mahila Suraksha Prahari (Women’s Security Guard).
The chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami stated this in the inauguration ceremony of Women Empowerment and Safety Week organised by Women Empowerment and Child Development (WECD) department at CM residence on Thursday which will be concluded on the International Women’s Day on March 8. He also stated that any person or organisation that would pre-notify authorities about child marriages or make efforts to stop them would be rewarded with Rs 10,000. Employees and officials involved in preventing such offences will also be felicitated by the government for their contribution, added the CM. He said on the occasion, “Women are the backbone of every society. Development and progress of women are crucial for the development of the State and there has always been a major contribution of women in the formation of Uttarakhand. Women have always been prioritised by the government at central and state level too in every policy making decision.” He said that several policies are being run across the State to make life easier for women.
The government so far has provided free three gas cylinders under Ujjwala Yojana to a total of 1.75 lakh Antyodaya card holders which made the cooking process easier for several women. He said that the government is also working on the ‘Jal Jeevan Mission’ scheme to ease the path of women in the hilly areas that have to walk several miles to fetch drinking water. He said that the State government is also working on bringing positive changes in the society by following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiative Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao. “We aim to make Uttarakhand one of the leading states of the country by 2025 and we need support of women to achieve this goal,” stated Dhami.
The WECD minister Rekha Arya also said in the event that continuous efforts are being made by the State government to empower women economically, socially and politically.The CM also felicitated those in the event who have done exceptional work in preventing child marriages and tackled other social issues. He along with Arya launched WECD’s e-paper ‘Apni Vani’ besides inaugurating a short film made on self-defence of women.
