People suffering effects of political roadshows hope for something different

The rally held by the Bharatiya Janata Party to mark the occasion of its new state president Madan Kaushik assuming charge formally caused traffic congestion in various parts of Dehradun on Monday. The citizens are of the view that irrespective of the party taking out such rallies, the public suffers major inconvenience due to political roadshows which contradict the official claims of the politicians about according top priority to the convenience and interests of the public.

A commuter Tanuja Barthwal said, “All such political roadshows cause inconvenience to the public at large. Such events cause major traffic jams and are basically not for the people but for the politicians. Nobody cares about these political rallies except their own party members who are there for creating more chaos for the common people. Such rallies should be banned for the good of the public as their time and energy will be saved while the political parties will also save money and other resources,” she opined.

A senior citizen stuck in the traffic jam at Buddha Chowk questioned how politicians think of seeking votes from the people by holding such roadshows which create problems for the people. Every party does such rallies in which traffic rules are blatantly flouted while the police remain mute spectators and try to tackle the resulting traffic mess, he said.

A shopkeeper at Araghar Chowk opined that political parties should avoid such rallies on busy roads. “Whichever party takes out rallies, the participants riding two-wheelers do not wear helmets and flout other rules while causing inconvenience to others. The nuisance and noise caused by such events needs to be avoided,” he said.
