People throng markets for Bhai Dooj shopping

People thronged the city’s major markets, including Paltan Bazaar and Jhanda Bazaar in preparations for Bhai Dooj on Wednesday. The markets were adorned with gifts and decorative items, and there was a notable influx of visitors at the city’s sweet shops as people rushed to buy sweets for the occasion.
A shopkeeper in Paltan Bazaar, Prateek Upadhyay said that customers began visiting his shop early Wednesday morning to purchase gifts and other items for Bhai Dooj. He said a significant crowd of shoppers at his store, all eager to complete their last-minute preparations.
The owner of a sweet shop Manish Jain said that residents flocked to his store in large numbers on Wednesday to buy sweets for Bhai Dooj. He said that around 80 per cent of sweets were sold that day, with many customers purchasing sweets right up until the celebration began.
Other sweet shop owners and gift shop proprietors echoed similar sentiments, expressing excitement over the increased sales leading up to Bhai Dooj.
Resident Shilpa Verma shared that she visited the market to finalise her preparations for the festival. She completed her purchases of gifts and sweets for her brother, noting that gifting sweets on this day is considered auspicious. She also bought new clothes for her and her brother to make the celebration memorable.
