In latest news from Uttarakhand, with the bypoll to assembly seats-Badrinath and Manglaur-slated on July 10, the Congress is now upping its ante against the ruling BJP. The party’s MLA from Haldwani Sumit Hridayesh said that the BJP’s turncoat candidate Rajendra Bhandari is all set to kiss the dust. “The people of this constituency are waiting for the election day to show the deserter the door. He has done nothing for his constituency and was preparing ground for his deserting the Congress when the latter was solidly standing with the tense people of Joshimath during the critical time of land subsidence. He deserves a bitter lesson from the people and he is all set to receive it at the bypoll,” he said.
Notably, though Bhandari was elected to the assembly from Badrinath on Congress ticket in 2022 he switched to the BJP in the run-up to the Lok Sabha election. His switch had necessiatated the bypoll.
Hridayesh further averred that his party is heading to win both the assembly bypolls. To recall, BSP candidate Sarvat Karim Ansari won the Manglaur seat in the 2022 assembly election. His death warranted the bypoll.
