The SPIC MACAY State Convention 2024 programme organised by the Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth enthralled youngsters and others on the second day of the programme at the Unison World School on Friday.
Intensive workshops for students in 16 art forms were held on Friday along with performances including Kathak by Deepak Maharaj, Mukhota dance by the Uttarakhand group, Hindustani classical vocal by Pandit Omkar Dadarkar and Sitar by Pandit Kushal Das.
Speaking on the occasion YSNA awardee Omkar Dadarkar, who conducted workshops during the programme, said, “The experience of teaching Hindustani classical vocal through the platform of SPIC MACAY is really good. Students are very receptive and quickly learnt compositions in Raga Bhimpalasi and started showing interest in Hindustani classical music. I hope that with this type of programmes, some of the children will definitely try to become vocalists.”
Further, head of the Performing Arts Department at Hopetown Girl’s School, Diwakar Ganguli appreciated SPIC MACAY’s crucial role in reconnecting young minds with India’s rich cultural heritage through its dedication to preserving and promoting classical music, dance and art. In an age where the younger generation often seems distant from traditional roots, this programme offers a vital bridge to the nation’s cultural wealth, showcasing the immense learning and enrichment that these art forms provide, he added.
