The postgraduate doctors continued their protest, which entered its sixth day on Sunday, outside the OPD building at Government Medical College (GDMC) hospital. They have stated that the protest will continue until they receive written action regarding their demands.
The PG doctors had earlier commenced their protest on September 8 and have been maintaining it through the night. They are demanding an increase in their stipend from Rs 69,000 to Rs 1,25,000. Resident Doctors Association president Abhijeet Rathi confirmed that the protest has reached its sixth day, noting that the authorities have only provided verbal assurances instead of written commitments. He emphasised that the protest will continue until they receive a written response to their demands. Additionally, he said that they are considering discussions with other PG doctors from medical colleges across the State to plan further actions for their movement.
According to sources, on Saturday, the PG doctors also halted OPD registration at GDMC Hospital. They took a rope and stood in front of the registration counter to assert their demands. Upon receiving this information, medical superintendent Dr RS Bisht and deputy medical superintendent arrived at the scene. During their discussions, an argument broke out between the two sides. Following this confrontation, the doctors closed the main gate and began a sit-in protest; however, the OPD registration was affected for only about half an hour. PG doctors at other medical colleges in the State are also protesting for the same demands.
