Pilgrims halted at Srinagar & Rishikesh due to inclement weather in Kedarnath

The Uttarakhand police on Tuesday stopped pilgrims on their way to Kedarnath Dham at Srinagar and Rishikesh as a precautionary measure due to inclement weather at Kedarnath in Rudraprayag district. The police have also appealed to the pilgrims present at Sonprayag and Gaurikund to avoid going towards Kedarnath.
The director general of police Ashok Kumar who visited Kedarnath on Tuesday said that the decision to temporarily halt pilgrims at Srinagar and Rishikesh was taken to prevent any inconvenience to them due to bad weather conditions in Kedarnath. “The meteorological department had already issued an alert of rain and snowfall in the State till Wednesday. We stopped pilgrims at Srinagar and Rishikesh on Tuesday afternoon and they will likely not be allowed to move ahead on Wednesday as well considering the weather. Pilgrims present at Sonprayag and Gaurikund will also not be allowed to move towards Kedarnath on Wednesday.
The movement of pilgrims to Kedarnath will be decided on the condition of the weather on Thursday,” said Kumar. He also appealed to the pilgrims to plan their Char Dham journey as per the weather forecast of the respective locations. He also said, “Pilgrims with heart-related issues should also stay extra cautious at high altitudes and must carry all the necessary medicines they need as per their health condition to ensure they do not face any health-related inconvenience.” During his visit to Kedarnath, the DGP also interacted with pilgrims and directed the police officials to take all necessary steps to ensure pilgrims face no inconvenience during their stay there.
