Pilgrims to be airlifted in case of medical emergency: minister

The Health department has made arrangements to airlift the pilgrims in case of any medical emergency during the Char Dham Yatra with the help of air ambulance. These ambulances would airlift patients and take them to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Rishikesh, Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) hospital and Srinagar medical college.
The Health minister Dhan Singh Rawat said that the chief medical officers (CMOs) and district magistrates (DMs) of Uttarkashi, Chamoli and Rudraprayag have been asked to remain alert in view of the recent death of pilgrims due to heart attack in Yamunotri. He said that the officers have been directed to airlift pilgrims in case of any emergency so that services of specialist doctors are made available to them without any delay.
The minister informed that 48 permanent and 23 temporary health units have been set up on the Char Dham Yatra route and 29 specialist doctors and 182 Medical Officers have been deployed in them. He said that 272 paramedics including 182 staff nurses and 90 pharmacists are deployed on the Yatra route. A total of 200 ambulances which includes 96 ambulances of the Health department and 77 of 108- emergency services are deployed in the Yatra. A cardiac centre has been established in Srinagar medical college and the helicopter ambulance service is kept stationed at AIIMS Rishikesh. The minister further informed that a cardiac unit has started functioning in District hospital of Uttarkashi and here a cardiologist would remain available.
