Pithoragarh DM to hold meeting with Nepalese counterpart on stone pelting at border

The Pithoragarh district magistrate Reena Joshi will hold a meeting with her Nepalese counterpart in two days in view of the stone pelting incidents experienced in the past few days from across the border which has affected embankment work along the Kali river in Pithoragarh’s Dharchula area.
The sub divisional magistrate Divesh Shashni told The Pioneer on Tuesday that some anti-state elements have been pelting stones on workers building the embankment on the Indian bank of the Kali river between Nepal and Pithoragarh. He said that the district administration has been in constant touch with Nepalese authorities regarding these incidents and they have assured that they will take action in the matter. He said, “We had already talked about differences the Nepalese officials have regarding the construction along the Kali river. We have also contacted the chief district officer (CDO) of Darchula district of Nepal who is equivalent to a DM here about the stone-pelting incidents from their side. He has promised to take action against the offenders.” “Presently, he is out of station and is scheduled to return in two days.
The DM Reena Joshi will hold a meeting with him in two days to discuss the stone pelting issue and clear any misapprehension the Nepalese officials might have regarding the construction work along the river,” added the SDM. He also said that construction work of the embankment along the river is presently in progress.
