Pithoragarh feels the chill; snowfall continues; rivers freeze

In latest news from Uttarakhand, snowfall occurred once again in the high altitude regions in Munsiyari and Dharchula of Pithoragarh district.  Also, it rained in the lower areas. The people have been shivering under the impact of the severe cold for the past few days. Mercury dropped by several notches in Munsiyari town with the minimum dipping to minus 1 degree Celsius and the maximum hovering to 5 degrees Celsius.  Locals said that till noon six inches of snowfall was recorded while the higher reaches of Didihat recorded the season’s third snowfall. Besides, water sources froze due to dipping temperature after heavy snowfall along the bordering areas with Nepal and China (Tibet). In Kalapani along the Nepal border, the Kali river remained frozen from Kalapani to Gunji.
