The play Tiloga- Amardev by Meghdoot Natya Manch enthralled the audience at the town hall here on Sunday. Based on the love story of Tiloga from Taidi and Amardev Sajwan from Bharpur, the play was researched and directed by noted theatre personality SP Mamgain. The programme was inaugurated by Forest minister Subodh Uniyal, Garhwal Univesity’s former vice chancellor MS Rawat, Tapkeshwar Mandir’s Peethadhishwar Mahant Krishna Giri, industrialist Rakesh Oberoi and other personalities. The touching story of Tiloga and Amardev is known to locals but a few others know about it. Mamgain undertook considerable research before writing his book ‘Uttarakhand Ke Aitihasik Natak’. The play staged on Sunday was basically in Hindi but due to its regional nature, words and songs in the Garhwali language were also used in some places. This tale is about 400 years old and this historical facet was successfully presented to the audience through the play.
Uttam Badoni played the character of Baba Prabhudas, Nandkishore Tripathi played Thakur Gaje Singh, Anil Dutt Sharma played Amardev, Mitali Punetha played Tiloga, Indu Rawat played Jayanti, Vijay Dabral played Madhyo Aswal, among characters played by others in the play. Alok Malasi composed the music for the play while Ajit Panwar had set the stage.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Meghdoot group is commemorating its silver jubilee year and made the love story from Uttarakhand, the subject of its play to mark the occasion. Since its inception, this theatre group has staged nearly two dozen plays during a period of 25 years.
