Uttarakhand achieved initial victories in the men’s and women’s categories in Beach Kabaddi at the 38th National Games. Notably, Beach Kabaddi has been included as an event in the National Games for the first time.
The Beach Kabaddi competition was inaugurated on February 9 along the banks of the Ganga in Shivpuri, Rishikesh.
The players attributed the inclusion of the game in the National Games to the efforts of the president of the Uttarakhand Beach Kabaddi Association, Mahesh Joshi.
Visibly exultant, Joshi said that the State’s achievement in both the men and women categories of the event had demonstrated its bright future. “The inclusion of Beach Kabaddi in the list of the National Games events is a significant milestone and the State government deserves congratulations for this achievement. I am confident that our boys and girls would clinch the medals ,” he added.
The captain of the Uttarakhand men’s Beach Kabaddi team Ravindra Singh said that he had previously played Beach Kabaddi and won a bronze medal, too. “But at that time it was not recognised as a national sport. Now, things are different,” he added.
Similarly, the captain of the State’s women team Pooja Mehra said that they hoped to maintain the winning spree in future, too.
