The Uttarakhand Congress has said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi evaded key issues facing the State in his speech in Rudrapur. The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara said on Tuesday that the PM concentrated a major portion of his speech on attacking the Congress party. He said that the people of the State were hoping that the PM will break his long silence on the murder of Ankita Bhandari and will expose the name of the VIP involved in the murder but he evaded the issue. Similarly, the people hoped that he will say something about the Agnipath scheme which has destroyed the future of the youngsters of the State and will express his views on the recruitment scam and the migration from the State.
Mahara said that the PM should have assured that strict action will be taken against those involved in the theft of 230 kilogrammes of gold from the Kedarnath temple. He added that the PM should have sought apology for the atrocities on the farmers but he remained focussed only on playing with the emotions of the people and insulting them. The PCC president said that when the president of the women wing of State Congress Jyoti Rautela and other workers tried to ask questions from the PM in Rudrapur they were arrested.
He said that the PM had made many promises to the people of the State in the last Lok Sabha elections and the people of the State reposed their faith in him by ensuring victory of BJP candidates in all the five seats in Uttarakhand. The people of the State are now feeling let down by Modi as none of the promises made by him was fulfilled. They are now determined to teach him and the BJP a lesson in the ensuing Lok Sabha elections, Mahara said.
