PM Narendra Modi inaugurates 38th National Games

India is making a spirited effort to host the 2036 Olympics. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said this during a glittering ceremony in which he declared the 38th National Games open at the Rajiv Gandhi sports stadium here on Tuesday. The PM asked thousands of the spectators to switch on the flashlight of their mobile phones while he announced the opening of the  National Games.

 In his address, Modi said that sports is an important instrument for all round development of the country. He said that the government is making every effort to develop a sports culture in the country and many sports events are being organised throughout the year. The PM said that development of the sports economy will play a major role in fulfilling the endeavor to make the Indian economy the third largest in the world. He averred that an entire ecosystem is behind every sportsperson which gives an impetus to the economy. Giving an example of Meerut in Uttar Pradesh, the PM said that it has more than 35,000 large and small industries producing sports equipment.  The PM claimed that in the past 10 years, the sports budget of the country has been increased by three times. “The medal tally of India in the international sports event reflects the success of the government’s efforts,’’ he said.

 The PM said that India is making a spirited effort for its claim to host the Olympics in the year 2036. The Olympics will give an unprecedented push to the sports infrastructure in the country.

 Using the platform of the National Games, the PM asked the people of the country to focus on their fitness. “Obesity has emerged as a major challenge in the last few years. The chances of diseases such as diabetes and heart ailments increase with obesity. We should focus on exercise and having a balanced diet to combat obesity,’’ he said. The PM also exhorted people to reduce their intake of edible oil by 10 per cent to remain healthy.

 In his address Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the theme of the 38th National Games is green games and every effort will be made to make minimum use of plastic in the 17 day long games. He said that the NG will give a platform to the sports talent and give a fillip to sports culture in Uttarakhand.

 The sportsperson representing all the States of the country participated in a march past in the inaugural ceremony. The march past was led by the mascot of the NG, the Molli. After this ceremony star badminton player Lakshya Sen entered the stadium holding Tejaswani the torch of the games. He handed over the torch to PM Modi.

 The governor of Uttarakhand Lt Gen ( retd) Gurmit Singh, the president of Indian Olympic Association PT Usha,  union minister of State for sports Raksha Nikhil Khadse, union minister of State Ajay Tamta, Vidhan Sabha speaker Ritu Khanduri, Uttarakhand sports minister Rekha Arya and others attended the ceremony.

DEHRADUN: In his address the Prime Minister Narendra Modi appreciated chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and his government for becoming the first State in the country to implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in the State. “ I call it a Secular Civil Code which will become a mainstay for maintaining the dignity of our sisters and daughters.  It will enhance the democratic spirit,’’ he said. The PM also linked the UCC with the sports by commenting that both promote team spirit.
