A delegation of the Bharatiya Janata Party called on the governor, lieutenant general (retd) Gurmit Singh and submitted a memorandum addressed to the President regarding the recent breach in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s security in Punjab. The BJP delegation comprising party state president Madan Kaushik and chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami along with other party leaders submitted the memorandum seeking a high level investigation while also stating that considering the breach and related factors, the Punjab chief minister should resign on moral grounds. In the memorandum to the President, the BJP state president Madan Kaushik stated that the security breach was a result of a feeling of political retribution. He alleged that the Congress has always been involved in all conspiracies in Punjab, even in giving rise to terrorism and anarchy. The Punjab government not only failed to ensure the PM’s security but is also responsible for violence against BJP workers at various places which has created a sense of anarchy. The memorandum requests a high level probe in the incident and stern action against the guilty.

Later, while addressing the media, Kaushik criticised senior Congress leader Harish Rawat’s statement in which he had reportedly asked whether a bomb would explode had the PM stayed there a bit longer. Stating that Rawat has a special role in making Charanjit Singh Channi the CM of Punjab, Kaushik said that Rawat’s statement should also be brought under the purview of a high level probe into the PM’s security breach. He said that the breach carried out allegedly with a feeling of political retribution and irresponsible statements of Congress leaders, especially Harish Rawat are a clear warning that similar incidents may take place in other Congress governed states in the coming days.
