A workshop on transforming residential energy consumption in Uttarakhand through rooftop solar energy was organised under joint aegis of the Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL), Uttarakhand Renewable Energy Development Agency (UREDA) and Council on Energy Environment and Water (CEEW) here on Thursday.
Addressing the workshop, the chief engineer of UPCL solar cell Ashish Arora said that Uttarakhand has made remarkable progress in implementation of Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Yojana. In the last seven months solar power plants of 23 MW capacity have been installed in the residential solar segment. The number of empanelled vendors servicing the residential sector also increased to 320.
Arora added that Uttarakhand is one of the leading states providing state subsidy, in addition to central subsidy under PM Surya Ghar. The State is providing a subsidy of Rs 17,000 per kW. For installing a solar plant of three KW capacity the State government provided a subsidy of Rs 51,000 which is highest in the country.
He said that the State government has set a target of installing 2,500 MW of solar power units till 2027 by harnessing the potential of distributed solar in different consumer segments.
The solar policy of the State envisages strengthening the institutional infrastructure, promoting innovative business models, scaling up rural livelihood applications and supporting eco-tourism, he said.
An official of CEEW claimed that a study by the group indicates that over 25 crore households across India have the economic potential to install more than 100 GW of solar energy capacity on rooftops.
