Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to virtually lay the foundation stone of the Kotdwar railway station to be revamped under the ambitious Amrit Bharat Station Yojana on February 26. All the ministers and MLAs from Pauri district besides the Lok Sabha member from Garhwal constituency are expected to be present at the virtual foundation laying ceremony in Kotdwar.
Notably, the old Kotdwar station, built way back in 1885, would be demolished for the new station to come up, said the railway officials and added that the new station building would have enhanced infrastructure and upgraded facilities for the passengers. The new station building as envisaged in the scheme would have two gates, new platforms, lifts, executive lounge, washrooms for the specially abled people, AC waiting room, free Wi Fi, foot over bridge, parking space and stalls to display local products for sale among others.
Railway sources further said that the PM would lay the foundation stones of 537 railway stations spread across the country, including Kotdwar station, simultaneously through virtual means on February 26. Kotdwar is one of the seven stations that come under the Moradabad railway division. However, it is the first station in Uttarakhand to be redeveloped under the Central government’s station redevelopment scheme.
A senior officer of the Moradabad division of Northern Railway said that the revamping of Kotdwar station would boost tourism activities not just in Pauri district but across Garhwal region which would result in enhancement in the common people’s income.
