The association of government doctors in the state, the Provincial Medical Health Service (PMHS) federation has threatened boycott of the OPDs if the people responsible for the assault on a medical officer in the Community Health Centre (CHC) of Ghat in Chamoli district are not arrested till July 13. A meeting of the PMHS was organised in district hospital Dehradun in which this decision was taken.
The president of the federation Dr Manoj Verma said that it is unfortunate that the medical officer of CHC Ghat, Dr Rohit Chauhan was severely beaten while discharging his duty. He said that Dr Chauhan is serving in a remote area away from family and home. Dr Verma said that the incident has put a question mark over the law and order situation. He said that the doctors in all parts of the State are agitated over the incident and all the doctors of Chamoli district are on work boycott to register their protest. Dr Verma said that such incidents would act as hindrance in the plan of the State government to bring positive change in the health services in the mountainous parts of the State.
In the meeting it was decided that the doctors of Chamoli district would continue to boycott the OPDs till culprits are arrested. The federation resolved that all the doctors in the State would work while wearing black armbands on Wednesday and Thursday and if the culprits are not arrested till Thursday all the doctors would boycott OPDs. The federation also accused the Police of adopting a non cooperative attitude in the incident.
The federation also dispatched a letter to chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami requesting him to take action on the issue.
