PMR dept starts functioning in GDMC

The dept would help in rehabilitation of patients of chronic diseases.
The patients suffering from different chronic diseases would now get help and rehabilitation by the experts of Government Doon Medical College (GDMC). The Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PMR) department at GDMC started functioning on Wednesday. Established on the lines of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), the department would help and rehabilitate the patients suffering from chronic diseases, surgery and neurological ailments. The Principal of GDMC, Dr Ashutosh Sayana said that there are large numbers of such patients in the state who are suffering from issues related to injury or neurological diseases. He said that such patients receive treatment for some in time in some government or private hospital but later remain unattended. Dr Sayana said that the PMR department would now help such patients and work towards their rehabilitation. He added that the department would also try to rehabilitate such patients who had become physically impaired due to some injury so that they get the proper position in the society. In view of the prevailing pandemic of the Covid-19, the PMR department would start its work by extending help to recovered patients of Covid-19. The physician of the PMR department Dr Abhishek Chaudhary said that the recovered patients of Covid-19 would be contacted on phone or by WhatsApp. Such patients would be told about post Covid-19 complications and would be extended advice in case they are having some problem. The department would also give necessary instructions to the discharged Covid-19 patients for home isolation.
The department would also work for providing consultancy and rehabilitation of the injured sportspersons. Separate arrangements are being made in the college to cater the injured sportspersons.
