Haridwar police arrested the absconding accused involving a case of raping a minor girl from the Chandighat area on Friday. According to the officers of the Jwalapur police station, the police teams apprehended the accused- identified as Deepak Saini (40), resident of Subhash Nagar, Jwalapur- when he was roaming around Chandighat dressed as Lord Shiva to hoodwink police. Later, during interrogation, Deepak is said to have confessed that he used to lure women and girls by promising them ‘blessings’ and ‘prasad’. This accused, wanted under the POCSO Act, has a long criminal history. He has several cases registered against him in Jwalapur and Saharanpur police stations.
The joint team of Kotwali Jwalapur, Shyampur police station and Criminal Intelligence Unit (CIU) Haridwar played an important role in the arrest. The police presented the accused in the court from where he was sent to jail.
